Levels remained significantly elevated in non-supplemented horses at 24 hours after exercise. During graded exercise testing, supplemented horses showed a significant increase in top speed and time to fatigue compared to non-supplemented horses. Supplemented horses also improved their oxygen-utilizing capacity (VO2max) and anaerobic threshold (VLa4) during the graded exercise test, while non-supplemented horses did not. Supplemented horses had greater forearm muscle circumference and less body fat than non-supplemented horses. A subjective muscle mass scoring system also showed positive differences in the overall muscling of supplemented horses.
